Just got back this weekend from a weeklong liveaboard out in Kona! It was great: long dives, neat animals. Anyone else been?

I've done a lot of diving in Kona (It's my home town), but I haven't done the liveaboard thing. Did you get to dive all the way down near South Point? Thats about the only way to dive there short of owing your own boat or doing some extreme shore diving. How did you like staying on the Aggressor? I might be doing a livaboard trip on one of their other boats next Summer.

How is the local diving in Kona? I was working on a trip to Hawaii in October, but we were looking at Maui.

The Aggressor was great! Amazing crew, I got in all 27 dives for nearly 27 hours (it was mostly shallow stuff).
We got all the way to south point which was neat. The diving is very different than the caribbean, but it's nice to try something new. I would absolutely recommend the liveaboard!

Also, I haven't tried Maui diving, but Kaui'i has some good stuff. Any way you do it, I'm pretty sure you can't miss in Hawaii.

I think every island offers little something different, even though you'll see a lot of the same critters. I live on Oahu right now, and really enjoy diving the wrecks. There's really only one in Kona, and it' not a very big one (although still a good dive). Also, some animals are more or less common on different Islands. I remember on one of my first dives on Oahu I got really excited when I saw a blue-dragon nudibranch (these are pretty rare in Kona). Everyone looked at me like an idiot when I pointed it out. After seeing 15 of them on that dive I realized why the other divers were't too excited.

We dive Maui every year and LOVE it! Can't wait to be there at Christmas again this year. Nothing like being able to dive Maui, Molokini, and Lanai all in one trip.

That sounds awesome. I have only been to Hawaii once, but am itching to go back. Make sure you enjoy it for me.
